COMMUNITY RESPONSE POSTION(S):
1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Technical work identifying and investigating and enforcing non-compliance with the City Code of Ordinances.
In addition to working within an assigned zone addressing code enforcement violations, all Code Officers are required to assist with beach and park patrols and parking enforcement, including weekend assignments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Patrol the City in a vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle looking for violations of the City Ordinances.
Respond to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving violations of the City Ordinances.
Resolve violations though voluntary compliance or take such measures as the City may direct to assure the required compliance.
Issue citations in accordance with City policy and procedures.
Conduct detailed research to determine facts in various cases.
Provide verbal and written testimony in code violation matters.
Maintain case files, records and reports.
Answer telephone calls and provide information to the public in a positive and friendly manner.
Performs other job related duties as requested.

Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to enforce the ordinances with firmness, tact and impartiality and to deal courteously with the general public.
Ability to keep accurate records and make verbal and written reports from these records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
Ability to learn and understand within six months from date of hire:
a.
Relative City Ordinances that the Division enforces.
b.
Department policies, procedures and practices.
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER c.
The geography of the City, including boundaries of the incorporated area and the roadway network.
Computer competency is required.
Ability to operate basic office equipment including a fax, copier, PC, keyboard, mouse and printer.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
High School graduate or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Two years' work experience in effectively dealing with the public in a positive manner.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Florida Driver's License.
Must complete and obtain the Fundamentals of Code Enforcement through the Florida Association of Code Enforcement within (6) six months of hire.
Must complete and obtain Parking Enforcement Specialist certification within 12 months of hire.
Must complete and obtain the Legal Aspects of Code Enforcement Certification within 3 years of hire and Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement Certification within 5 years of hire.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Acceptable haring (with or without hearing aid).
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Ability to use basic tools including but not limited to a crowbar, hammer, utility knife or pliers.
Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
Ability to sit at a desk and view a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel and stand.
Ability to handle and work under stressful conditions.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
